Tourism leaders say immediate future is “a little scary”
Due to the economic state of this country and the depleted amount of tourism expected in Biloxi that is expected to result, the Taxi service in Biloxi is projected to be down slightly in 2009.
To make matters worse, AirTran has announced that they are suspending all service into the Biloxi-Gulport international airport and this alone should cut volume of taxi service in the area. Almost half of local taxi companies rely on the airport for their business and most local cab companies are expecting to drop as much as 40%. However most cab company owners have remained positive that they will be able to weather the storm. This author strongly agrees and I believe that tourism as well as taxi volume will rebound dramatically once the perceived crisis ends.
